span style="letter-spacing: 0.1px; line-height: 20.8px; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);">Dismissed Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) politician Fahri Hamzah had called on the party's president Sohibul Iman to step down from his position to settle the ongoing dispute within the PKS.

Sohibul's double position, as PKS president and a lawmaker at the House of Representatives, could hamper the dispute settlement, including a mediation trial relating to a lawsuit filed by Fahri against the party, the latter said on Monday.

The mediation trial should had been held at the Central Jakarta District Court on Monday but Sohibul did not come to the court, claiming to be busy.

Sohibul also serves as a lawmaker on House Commission X overseeing education, youth, sports and tourism affairs.

"I suggest that Sohibul step down from his role and focus on being a lawmaker," Fahri told journalists at the House complex on Monday, claiming that Sohibul was rarely present at the House.

PKS currently needs a dedicated leader to help develop the party, he continued.

Fahri, who is also a House deputy speaker, said his position was different to Sohibul, as he did not hold a functional role on the PKS central executive board.

The PKS has confirmed that the party agreed to dismiss Fahri in a written statement signed by Sohibul in early April for Fahri's misdemeanor and controversial statements that could taint the party's image.

Fahri then filed lawsuits against Sohibul, the PKS arbitration council, and the party's organizational disciplinary upholding body to the South Jakarta District Court on April 5 in the wake of his dismissal. (rin)
