Korean Lee Yong Dae and Yoo Yeon Song crushed Danmark’s Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen in a straight 21-16, 21-14 men’s doubles semifinal match at the BCA Indonesia Open badminton championship.
The triumph paves the way to the final for the crowd-favored Koreans, where they will meet fifth-seeded Chinese Chai Biao and Hong Wei or Danish Mads Conrad-Petersen and Mads Pieler Kolding.
Yong Dae said the court had been quite windy in the semifinal, but that did not prevent their victory.
“The Danish pair played well in the first game. We were nervous in the first game, but in the second game we played well. We had the right drive, and our strategy worked out,” Yong Dae said after the match.
Yeong Song thanked his partner Yong Dae, who he said had backed him up well.
But the South Korean pair was also grateful for support from the crowd. Female fans’ idol Yong Dae said it was local support that allowed the pair to perform well.
“Every year when I come here, there are a lot of people who support me. That is a burden for me, because I have a responsibility to win for my fans’ sake,” Yong Dae joked.
Yong Dae, showered with love from his fans, also revealed that some fans visited him at the hotel to give him gifts.
The most memorable gift was a photo album with a collection of photos from the beginning of his career until now, Yong Dae said.
Yeong Song said anyone who supported Yong Dae also supported him. Therefore, the pair was so thankful, he said. (bbn)
