akarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama may have cut working hours for Jakarta civil servants during Ramadhan, but he will not tolerate lateness and has threatened to cut the allowance for those not in on time during the fasting month.

During Ramadhan, city civil servants start work at 7 a.m., an hour earlier than usual, and finish at 2 p.m., two hours earlier than usual. The policy allows them to go home earlier to break the fast with their families.

It is based on a decree issued by the Ministry of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform.

However, Ahok stressed that he expected the city’s civil servants to comply with the new working hour policy by getting to the office an hour early.

"If they come late, we will cut their regional performance allowance [TKD]," Ahok told journalists at City Hall on Monday.

He said he would assess the impact of the new policy and whether it produced effective working results during the fasting month, which began on Monday. (rin)
