"We have anticipated public needs," BI executive director Suhaedi said.
The central bank expects Rp 160 trillion in withdrawals during Ramadhan and Idul Fitri, 14.7 percent more than in regular months, Suhaedi said.
According to BI, currency circulation is currently Rp 534 trillion, consisting of Rp 527 trillion in banknotes and the remainder in coins.
BI distributed cash to 43 representative offices and started cash exchange operations in a number of strategic locations in the capital city on Monday. (dan)
