A 2-meter bottlenose dolphin was found stranded in waters off Cirebon, West Java, on Thursday morning.

The dolphin was found at 5 a.m. on Thursday, local resident Darsono Sumantri said, as reported by Antara news agency.

The dolphin was reportedly weak and had suffered several wounds to its head and snout. It was also missing a tooth, Darsono said.

Other residents gathered to help save the dolphin. Along with the Water Police, they managed to release the dolphin into the open sea.

"We were rushing to save the dolphin and release it into the sea," he said, adding that it was the first time a dolphin had become stranded in the area. (rin)
