he Jakarta City administration will begin to enforce the even-odd license plate traffic policy next month to mitigate traffic congestion on three major thoroughfares in Jakarta: Jl. M. H. Thamrin, Jl. Sudirman and Jl. Gatot Subroto.
The policy will replace the three-in-one car-pooling policy that was abolished on May 16. "We will enforce the policy after Idul Fitri," head of the city transportation agency Andri Yansyah said at City Hall on Friday.
The policy will be enforced in the mornings and evenings, just like the three-in-one policy, the day’s date will be the reference for the plate numbers that will be allowed to pass along the three thoroughfares.
"As an example, on the first day of the month, cars with an odd number will be allowed to use the thoroughfares. On the second day, it's the cars with even numbers," Andri said.
Andri said previously that the city administration was preparing an electronic road-pricing (ERP) system for long-term traffic management of the three thoroughfares. The administration is preparing an open tender for the ERP project, Andri said. (bbn)
