AKARTA: Revenues and net profits of major clove cigarette maker HM Sampoerna grew strongly in the January-to-June period of this year compared with the same period last year.

Sales and revenue grew 8.23 percent to Rp 47.3 trillion (US$3.6 billion) in the first half of this year from Rp 43.7 trillion in the same period last year. Net profits surged 21.7 percent to Rp 6.1 trillion from Rp 5.01 trillion.

Of Sampoerna’s total sales and revenue, 99.5 percent comes from the local market, with machine-made cigarette leading sales with Rp 29.69 trillion, followed by handmade cigarettes (Rp 9.81 trillion), white machine-made cigarettes (Rp 7.3 trillion) and others (Rp 278.88 billion). — JP
