National scene: KPK to launch apps to combat graft

T

he Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is preparing a system to better monitor potential corruption, the antigraft body chairman has said.

KPK chairman Agus Rahardjo said on Wednesday that the commission was developing a system, including Android-based applications, to be applied in ministries and other government institutions in an attempt to prevent and detect potential corruption.

“God willing, in December, the KPK will launch the applications,” he said as quoted by tribunnews.com on Wednesday.

Agus added that one of the apps would be named Perizinanku (My Permit), which would serve to monitor the issuance of permits by relevant institutions.

“The planned systems will function to monitor public services. One of them includes Perizinanku that will monitor and ensure that permit issuance is conducted more transparently,” he said.

Agus acknowledged that ongoing efforts through continuous public campaigns had not been sufficient in curbing the seemingly increasing number of graft cases. Therefore, he said, the apps were expected to provide a boost.

“We need to have another tool that enables and encourages the public to be involved in monitoring the public services and facilities provided by the government,” he said.
