ayan Mirna Salihin did not know anything about the relationship between defendant Jessica Kumala Wongso and her Australian ex-boyfriend Patrick O'Connor, Jessica has claimed, brushing off allegations that she killed Mirna after being offended by comments about the relationship.
"I just told Mirna I was close with one guy. I didn't even tell her Patrick's name," Jessica told judges on Wednesday at the Central Jakarta District Court, adding that the conversation occurred in Australia back in 2015.
Jessica also said she had not shared detailed information with Mirna about the relationship, but only with other friends in Australia. She refused to disclose the names of the friends.
Prosecutor Sandhy Handika told the court he did not believe Jessica's statements, citing that in a previous hearing, Mirna's husband Arief Soemarko said Mirna had told him she was scared of Jessica, who allegedly became angry when Mirna told her to break up with her boyfriend.
"How could Arief know Patrick's name when you never told Mirna about him?" Sandhy said, to which Jessica suggested he ask Arief directly.
Prosecutors have accused Jessica of the premeditated murder of her friend after Mirna suggested Jessica break up with O'Connor. In their indictment, prosecutors said Mirna asked Jessica to break up with O'Connor because he was violent, used drugs and did not have a strong financial situation.
Jessica and Mirna were friends and both attended Billy Blue College of Design in Sydney, Australia. (rin)
