he Jakarta Police and the military have identified groups of people who have tried to provoke others on the internet prior to the Jakarta gubernatorial election, Jakarta Police chief Insp. Gen. Mochammad Iriawan said on Wednesday.
Therefore, he said security officers would closely monitor provocative content on social media prior to the election on Feb. 15, 2017.
“We will hold cyber patrols with the military. We have analyzed and kept the data. So if something happens, we already know who is behind it,” Iriawan told journalists after a meeting at the headquarters of the military in Jakarta as reported by tribunnews.com.
Iriawan, however, did not mention any specific groups that were guilty of spreading provocative content on the internet.
On social media, apart from spreading abusive ethnic and religious sentiments, certain people try to encourage the police and the military to fight against each other.
Iriawan added that the police and the military would also exchange intelligence information related to security disturbances in the capital.
“We are always alert to any provocative content on social media and we exchange information,” he added. (bbn)
