ndonesia is sure to win a mixed doubles title in the Hong Kong Open Super Series badminton tournament after Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir defeated home players Tang Chun Man and Tse Ying Suet 23-21 and 21-14 in a quarter final match on Saturday.

Tontowi and Liliyana are to meet their compatriots Praveen Jordan and Debby Susanto, who beat South Korean pair Choi Solgyu and Chae Yoo Jung in a semi-final on Friday, in an all-Indonesian final.

“One title is sure for Indonesia. It’s a delightful achievement for [Indonesian] mixed doubles in the Hong Kong Open,” Liliyana said in a statement.

“The important thing is all are Indonesians and we would play to the maximum. Just enjoy the game,” Tontowi added.

In the first time they challenged Tang and Tse in the field, Tontowi and Liliyana managed to overcome their rivals. At one time during the match Tontowi and Liliyana were trailing at 7-21 and their rivals even reached game point of 19-20, but they managed to make Hong Kong players surrender with a 23-21 score.

In the second game, Tantowi and Liliyana played lightly, defeating Tang and Tse 21-14.

Besides grabbing the mixed doubles title, Indonesia has the chance to win the men’s doubles title as its pair, Mohammad Ahsan and Rian Agung Saputra, are to challenge Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen from Denmark. (jun)
