ank Central Asia (BCA) is still trying to create more traction around its one-year-old e-money application Sakuku, focusing on young people in a bid to expand the customer base for the electronic payment system.
Fera Agustina, BCA’s vice president of internet development and mobile banking, said the company expected to have 300,000 Sakuku app users by the end of 2017, up from about 159,000 as of November 2016. This year's figure fell way below expectations of the company's target of attracting 1 million people when the app was launched about a year ago.
“We aim for a twofold increase of users next year. We keep trying to create new features and programs that can attract young people so they want to become BCA customers,” she said during the ‘BCA Media Sharing Session’ in Jakarta.
To attract young people, BCA is collaborating with e-commerce platforms such as Blibli, enabling users to buy products online via the Sakuku app, using their smartphones.
The publicly listed lender also planned to collaborate with more merchants, especially in popular hangouts for young people such as the Central Park shopping mall in West Jakarta and the Pantai Indah Kapuk area in North Jakarta, BCA’s assistant officer Charles Buntoro said.
Currently, Sakuku has 276 merchants spanning 1,200 outlets across Indonesia.
Besides BCA, state-owned Bank Mandiri has also shifted its strategy to brace for the digital era by launching a similar app targeting young people, called Mandiri e-cash. (win/dmr)
