he Jakarta General Elections Commission (KPU Jakarta) has arranged for four panelists to prepare questions for all gubernatorial candidates in their first official debate in to be held at Hotel Bidakara, South Jakarta, on Jan. 13.
"The panelists are experts in social and economic, transportation and city planning fields. They will prepare questions which will be conveyed by a moderator," KPU Jakarta head Sumarno told The Jakarta Post on Thursday.
Sumarno assured that the panelists were neutral and independent parties who were not affiliated with any of the gubernatorial candidates.
However, he refused to reveal the names of any of the panelists.
"We won’t reveal the panelists names as a measure to prevent any campaign teams from contacting them before the debate," he said.
Sumarno said that the first debate would focus on social and economic problems in the city.
"This will include issues of employment, poverty, social disparity, security and narcotics," he said.
Besides that, the candidates will also discuss education, health, transportation and the environment, Sumarno added. (jun)
