akarta managed to reduce its electricity consumption by 157 megawatts during Earth Hour on Saturday after the city dimmed some of its lamps for an hour.
The number is equal to the electricity usage of 26 medium-sized malls in the capital.
Also during Earth Hour, which is an annual global demonstration in support of action on climate change, the capital reduced carbon dioxide emissions by 112.69 tons, an official claimed to beritajakarta.com.
"The number is 6 percent higher than last year," said Hendrix Reza, Jakarta distribution operation assistant manager of state-owned electricity company PLN, on Sunday.

In 2016, he added, the capital reduced its electricity usage by 148 megawatts while reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 57. 51 tons.
Meanwhile, Jakarta Industry and Energy Agency’s city lighting section head Syamsul Bakhri said that the capital had dimmed 5,393 road lamps from 8.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. on Saturday
