ollowing an attack on Novel Baswedan, a senior investigator of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), the National Police have coordinated with its subsidiaries, the Jakarta Police and the Kelapa Gading Police, to investigate the incident.

Novel, who is lead investigator into the e-ID embezzlement case, was doused with acid at 5:10 a.m. on Monday after he engaged in a morning prayer in a mosque near his house. He suffered burns to his left eye, face and neck.

As of Wednesday, the police have questioned 15 witnesses, said Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Argo Yuwono.

"[The witnesses] are people who knew, heard and saw the incident happening, especially people who knew when exactly Novel went out of his house," Argo said on Wednesday.

Residue of the acid that was used to injure Novel had been taken to the police's forensics laboratory for testing, he said.

The police still faced difficulties as they have not managed to find any fingerprints of the two perpetrators, who rode a motorcycle during the incident.

"We also have not discovered the license plate or the make of the motorcycle," he said.

The police would cooperate with the KPK to investigate the assault as the surveillance cameras, which allegedly recorded the incident, had been seized by the latter.

So far, both the police and the KPK still declined to disclose any reason behind the assault, saying they would delve further into the case before reaching any conclusions. (dea/dan)
