The Jakarta administration plans to use money left over from the development of the Semanggi interchange to repair sidewalks.
City secretary Saefullah said that total funds for the project reached Rp 579 billion (US$43.5 million) while it cost Rp 360 billion to build the interchange.
“Because efficiency measures were introduced in the building of the Simpang Susun Semanggi, we have leftover money that will be used to build sidewalks,” Saefullah said Wednesday at City Hall as quoted by beritajakarta.com.
The sidewalks will be located along Jl. Jen. Sudirman, South Jakarta, up to Bendungan Hilir in Central Jakarta with a total length of 2 kilometers; and along Jl. Gatot Subroto, from Kartika Chandra Hotel to Taman Ria Senayan in South Jakarta, spanning 1.5 kilometers.
The sidewalks will have ducts to avoid damage, he added.
Bina Marga road agency head Yusmada Faizal said the sidewalks would be 9 meters wide and be built on both side of the roads.
“We will start the construction soon. They are expected to be completed before the Asian Games,” Yusmada said. (wnd)
