assengers thronged Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Banten on Monday following the cancelation of all flights to and from Bali after Mount Agung erupted.
The volcanic ash, which spread after the eruption on Saturday afternoon, forced the closure of Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali and Lombok Airport and led to the cancelation of hundreds of flights since Sunday night.
“We hope the cancelation will be conducive,” airport communication manager Dewandono Prasetyo said on Monday as quoted by wartakota.tribunnews.com.
Dewandono said 111 flights were canceled on Sunday, while some 50 were canceled as of noon on Monday.
He added that he had cooperated with the airlines to inform passengers.
“Hopefully the airlines’ officers can give clear information to the passengers, so they will not be stranded.”
Some flights were rerouted to airports closer to Bali, like Juanda Airport in Surabaya, East Java; Sultan Hasanuddin Airport in Makassar, South Sulawesi and El Tari Airport in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara. (ecn)
