resident Joko “Jokowi” Widodo condemned on Sunday the church attacks in Surabaya, East Java, and called on the public to remain calm but alert.
“All citizens [should] remain calm and vigilant. Only by being united can we fight against terrorism,” he told a press conference broadcast live from Dr. Soetomo Hospital in Surabaya after visiting survivors of the terror attacks.
He also called on the National Police chief to immediately investigate the attacks and identify the extremist groups who mastermind them.
“This is crime against humanity, which is irrelevant to any religion. The perpetrators even used a 10-year-old as a suicide bomber,” he said.
“May the victims rest in peace and I wish for the speedy recovery of the survivors. The government will cover their entire medical costs,” he added.
