ndonesia is among the main backers of the newly adopted United Nation's resolution on the protection of Palestinian civilians, the Foreign Ministry has said.
Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said that she had been "in constant communication with the Indonesian permanent representative to the United Nations in New York", to ascertain the endorsement of the resolution.
"Indonesia’s relentless and consistent support for every single initiative and undertaking for Palestine is a testament to Indonesia’s political commitment to Palestine as it [Palestine] continues to experience acts of violation and impunity by Israel as the occupying power," Retno said in a press statement on Thursday.
"These acts of impunity include violations of the Geneva Convention on the protection of civilians in times of war as well as international human rights and humanitarian laws," she continued.

The UN General Assembly has adopted a resolution calling for the protection of Palestinian civilians after the Assembly’s rejection of a United States-sponsored amendment condemning Hamas.
The resolution, entitled Protection of Palestinian Civilians, deplores the use of excessive, disproportionate and indiscriminate force by Israeli forces against Palestinian civilians in the occupied Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem, and particularly the Gaza Strip.
The Assembly demanded that Israel refrain from such actions and fully abide by its legal obligations under the Fourth Geneva Convention relating to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Times of War, adopted in August 1949.
The resolution, proposed by Algeria and Turkey, was passed with 120 votes of support, eight against and 45 abstentions. (evi)
