The first international cycling competition Tour de Molvccas (TdM) 2017 will be held soon in Maluku.
The competition will start on September 18 and end on September 23. Cyclists from 20 countries will have to complete the race’s five stages with a total distance of 713.7 kilometers, four stages are located on Seram Island while the other one is located in Ambon.
Maluku tourism department head Saimima who also leads the TdM 2017 event said that participants will pass through four areas of the Maluku province namely West Seram regency, Central Maluku regency, East Seram regency and Ambon.
“There are two additional ferry boats that will be used to transport participants to Seram Island,” told Saimima.
“This event is expected to motivate and speed up the development of Seram Island,” Saimima added.

Meanwhile, the head of East Seram Muhammadiyah (PDM SBT) Fachri Husni Alkatiri expressed his appreciation for the international event. He hoped the event can improve the creative economy among the locals through homestay, restaurants, mini markets and souvenir shops.
According to tourism minister Arief Yahya, this competition will expose Maluku, also known as Moluccas (Thousand Islands Country), to the world.
“It is different from a marathon competition that can bring in thousands of people, a cycling event only has around 200 participants but its media value is very big, the wonder of Thousands Islands Country will be known all over the world,” said Arief. (asw)
