Indonesia to participate in Daechun Stream Festival in South Korea

he Tourism Ministry is set to take part in the upcoming Daechun Stream Festival held by Bukgu District Government Office in Busan, South Korea, on Oct. 14.
In 2016, the number of outbound tourists from South Korea reached 22.3 million, up to 15 percent from 2015, making South Korea one of the countries in Asia Pacific with the highest number of outbound tourists.
“Apart from Daechun Stream Festival, we will also promote Wonderful Indonesia tourism brand in Seoul and Busan through ad placements on billboards, LED media tunnels, subway screen doors and One Vision Way,” said the ministry's deputy minister for overseas promotion I Gde Pitana.
Moreover, Pitana said Indonesia is still in the top 10 list of favorite holiday destinations among South Korean tourists.

“In terms of Southeast Asia region, we’re still behind Philippines, Thailand, Singapore and Cambodia. We believe that with all of the effort, support and partnership that we’ve established with the tourism people in Indonesia we can compete with these countries,” he added.
A total of 15 tourism companies from Indonesia consisting of hotels, resorts, marine and safari parks from Batam, Yogyakarta and Bali will take part in the event. The ministry is said to help provide sponsorship package and performance art team. The Visit Indonesia Tourism Officer (VITO) South Korea also lends their support for the event.
This year, the ministry is targeting to welcome 514,000 South Korean tourists.
Pitana mentioned that Bali and Yogyakarta are the two favorite cities among South Korean tourists.
Back in 2015, Indonesia welcomed 338,671 tourists from South Korea. The year after, the ministry set a target to attract 400,000 South Korean tourists, up to 18 percent from 2015’s achievement.
“This year our target is 514,000 tourists from South Korea,” said Tourism Minister Arief Yahya.
Additionally, the Indonesian government has also issued a free-visa policy for South Korea and other 168 countries. (kes)
