wiss electricity company ABB contributes its expertise to the ongoing 2018 Asian Games by supporting Indonesian state-owned electricity company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) in supplying electricity to various Games venues.

The 2018 Asian Games is a multisport event held from Aug. 26 to Sept. 2 in Jakarta and Palembang, South Sumatra. According to the Indonesian Asian Games Organizing Committee (INASGOC), some 17,000 participants from 45 countries are competing at the event.

ABB, meanwhile, helps PLN with engineering packages and products for substations feeding electricity to the city of Palembang, specifically to two Games venues in the city: the Jakabaring Sports City and the Jakabaring Sriwijaya Soccer Stadium.

Key ABB products include gas-and-air-insulated switchgear, protection equipment and telecommunication systems. ABB’s substation automation, including its ABB AbilityTM MicroSCADA, will help control and monitor the substations, including their protection systems, while ensuring full integration among separate system devices.

Furthermore, ABB’s provision of critical network technology will ensure communication among substations in the Palembang region. ABB will also provide stand-by service specialists to support PLN over the period of the games.

“We are pleased to support PLN in providing reliable power supply for the 18th Asian Games,” ABB Power Grids Division President Claudio Facchin said.

Facchin added that this was not the first time for ABB to partner with Indonesia in the country’s power infrastructure development.

“ABB has been partnering with Indonesia for decades in the area. ABB remains committed to delivering leading-edge technologies to support the country’s economic growth,” he explained.

Recently, ABB has also supplied gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) to PLN for critical substations in the Greater Jakarta area as well as in West Java, East Java and Sulawesi, thereby increasing its footprint in Indonesia.
