t has been known that export activities can accelerate the economic recovery of a country; therefore, it is possible to measure the recovery based on the increasing number of export activities carried out in various regions.
“As industrial assistance, the Customs and Excise Directorate General through its service office units in the regions has successfully assisted entrepreneurs in exporting their products. This time, the export activities were successfully held in Makassar and Barru regency [South Sulawesi], as well as Banjarmasin [South Kalimantan]," said Hatta Wardhana, the customs and excise office’s public relations and customs counseling subdirectorate head.
The Makassar Customs and Excise Office succeeded in exporting some commodities, including cooking oil, in collaboration with PT Intihope Energi Perkasa on Wednesday (20/04/2022). In a surprising turn of events, used oil and used cooking oil have sold well in the international market, despite being of no market value in the past. Twenty tons of used cooking oil were successfully sent to Malaysia to be processed into biodiesel.
"Overseas, used cooking oil is often used for the needs of the biodiesel industry. However, used cooking oil has not been optimally utilized domestically, so it is feared that it will be misused," said Hatta.
Furthermore, a micro, small and medium enterprise (MSME) in Banjarmasin, UD Elcent Group, exported resin products on April 25. The products were sent to Klang Port in Malaysia. Hatta hopes the shipment will open up export opportunities for other MSME entrepreneurs in Banjarmasin to compete in the international market as well.
In Barru, the Parepare Customs and Excise Office has continuously maintained its positive trend of exporting commodities, courtesy of PT Semen Bosowa. In fact, a shipment of approximately 50,000 metric tons of clinker was successfully exported to Bangladesh on April 27, through Garongkong Port, Barru regency.
“Clinker itself is a semifinished cement that comes in the form of lumps or lumps with a size of 3 to 25 millimeters and is dark gray in color. The clinker market is considered very promising because several countries need clinker, such as China, the Philippines and Bangladesh," explained Hatta.
He added that the high export activity would affect the competitiveness of the economy and increase the country's foreign exchange. Therefore, his team at the Customs and Excise Directorate General is actively assisting and educating businesses on various new regulations and the ease of exporting. The hope is that the companies can expand their business and carry out export activities.
