n its role as a facilitator of trade and industry, Customs and Excise actively provides support and education to micro, small and medium enterprise (MSME) owners to help them export their products abroad.
For example in Sabang, Aceh, Sabang Customs and Excise Office helps Gleeh producers increase the quality of their products and enhance their packaging to reach export market quality. Gleeh are cleaning and whitening products for clothes, bathrooms and more. Since their first production in 2003, Gleeh products have received positive feedback from consumers.
Meanwhile, the Parepare Customs and Excise Office helped CV Coco Mandar Indonesia in Polewali Mandar, West Sulawesi, on April, 20 in the form of product pre-export assistance for CV Coco Mandar’s nipah brooms before they were shipped to India on April 22.
“Exporting becomes easier once you’ve learned the ropes. I’m glad that I’m able to provide employment to the surrounding Polewali Mandar community. Also, I’d like to thank the Parepare Customs and Excise team for their patience in guiding us through the export process,” said Sadaria, director of CV Coco Mandar Indonesia.
In Yogyakarta, the Yogyakarta Customs and Excise Office visited several MSMEs with export potential including the Mina Bahari cooperative, Dapur Hijau and PT Webe Girh Bioteknologi. The three enterprises are part of the Yogyakarta food and beverage sector. PT Webe Girh, for example, imports food ingredients from China and Thailand.
“When Webe Girh is ready to export, it can apply for customs facilities to Customs and Excise, in the Ease of Import for Export [KITE]. With this facility, the import of plant and raw materials will receive tax exemptions. This will increase time and budget efficiency,” said Turanto Sih Wardoyo, head of Customs and Excise VI of Yogyakarta Customs and Excise.
Over in Kediri, the Kediri Customs and Excise Office was visited by the Batik Kirana Cooperative on May 9. During the visit, the cooperative introduced batik products from Kediri regency. Dian, a representative of Batik Kirana Cooperative, expressed her appreciation, as well as that of other MSMEs, especially batik artisans in the region, for Kediri Customs and Excise Office’s warm reception. “We hope to gain Kediri Customs and Excise’s continuous support especially for batik products with export potential,” said Dian.
According to Hatta Wardhana, the sub-director of public relations and customs information, Customs and Excise’s direct support for MSMEs is an effort to speed up the economic recovery. “The assistance program’s goals are to propel MSMEs forward to export, thus improving the overall performance of MSMEs and contributing to Indonesia’s economic growth,” he said.
