T Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk. or BNI (stock code: BBNI) is strongly committed to promote the performance and expansion of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to propel their growth in the second quarter of this year. BNI perfects its mentoring programs while continuing to seize various collaboration opportunities and to encourage MSMEs to penetrate the global market.

BNI director of enterprise and commercial banking Muhammad Iqbal said that the resilience of Indonesian MSMEs survived the critical periods of the COVID-19 pandemic. He added that the second half of 2022 is a period of expansion for MSMEs to realize their delayed expansion.

“As we know, MSME was the first economic segment to drive national economic recovery. As an agent of development, we continue to improve our mentoring programs and nurture multiple collaborations to revive, accelerate and even expand MSMEs toward the global stage. Even amid the rising inflation, BNI is still optimistic that MSMEs will survive,” he said.

Iqbal continued that BNI sees good credit growth despite the unpredictable economic fluctuations, especially in sectors related to the welfare of many including the staple goods market.

“BNI’s MSME credit growth is still showing a positive trend. We predict that it will continue to strengthen in accordance with the expanding economic performance,” he explained.

Iqbal further explained that BNI has successfully disbursed a total of Rp 100 trillion (US$6.5 billion) to finance MSMEs by August. The amount increased by 9.51 percent year on year (yoy) from the same period in the previous year, which amounted to Rp 91.5 trillion.

“This growth was supported by credit in the agriculture and trade sectors. Both sectors contributed more than 50 percent of MSME’s credit composition,” ended Iqbal.
