GoPay launches dedicated merchant app with flexible disbursement, fraud prevention

G

oTo Financial, GoTo Group’s financial technology business unit, has launched the GoPay Merchant app, targeting merchants particularly in the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) sector.

Available for both Android and iOS, the GoPay Merchant app is aimed at providing MSMEs with greater financial access and enabling them to operate with ease, with features designed around QRIS adoption, flexible disbursement and fraud prevention.

QRIS, short for Quick Response Indonesia Standard, allows users of a payment service to transfer funds to any other service within Bank Indonesia’s ecosystem through a QR code.

Since its launch in 2019, the system has been increasingly popular among consumers seeking to go cashless. This popularity is reflected in data from the Indonesian Payment Systems Association (ASPI), which found that as of March 2024, 31.6 million merchants across the country have adopted QRIS as a payment method, an increase of 24.6 percent compared to the previous year.

GoTo Financial Head of Merchant Services Haryanto Tanjo acknowledged that while the number of MSMEs using QRIS is rising, there are still several barriers to adoption when it comes to digital financial services, such as a lengthy registration process, the inability to withdraw funds at any time and concerns around potential fraud.

“The GoPay Merchant app is part of our ongoing efforts to address these barriers and provide MSMEs with safe and reliable financial services. We are just getting started and we will continue developing more features for the app, so that we can meet even more needs for MSMEs across Indonesia," he said.

Through the GoPay Merchant app, merchants can easily register for QRIS, with a code that can be used immediately to receive payments generated in just 30 seconds after a successful registration. GoPay claims that the process is the fastest QRIS registration process in Indonesia.

Merchants can also benefit from the app’s flexible disbursement, allowing them to withdraw funds at any time so that they can better manage their finances. This feature is particularly useful for Adam Jodi Firmansyah, proprietor of Adam Jaya Fruit Shop in Pasar Rebo, Jakarta.

"It’s important for us to have sufficient funds every day to pay suppliers. With the flexible disbursement feature in the GoPay Merchant app, I can withdraw the funds at any time, allowing me to use the funds to purchase stock to sell the next day without needing to tap into my reserves to pay for it. I can also set automatic daily fund withdrawals during the store’s closing hours for added convenience,” he said.

In addition, merchants can use GoPay Spiker, which provides real-time voice notifications upon successful payment. A first-of-its-kind device in Indonesia, GoPay Spiker eliminates concerns around fraudulent transactions and the need for merchants to manually check the application to accurately verify payments.

Nita, owner of Warung Buffet Dapur Cigeulis Jakarta, noted that with the feature, she can simply listen to the transaction notifications to ensure payment has been received while preparing customer orders.

“This helps to prevent fraud, while enabling me to serve customers more quickly, especially during peak hours.”
