he Indonesian Ulema Council’s (MUI) branch in Batam, Riau Islands, supports the government’s plan to use the Infectious Special Hospital (RSKI) on Galang Island to treat Palestinians from the Gaza Strip wounded from Israeli attacks.
However, the Batam MUI emphasizes the importance of a clear road map and standard operating procedure (SOP) so that the plan will not create new problems.
Batam MUI chairman Luqman Rifa’i said the support was based on the hifdzun nafsi (protect lives) principle in Islam.
“We consider this as a just and civilized humanitarian step,” Luqman said in a statement on Sunday.
However, the Batam MUI gave several crucial notes which the government should pay attention to, including concerns about geopolitics and security.

Luqman said Galang Island was in an area bordering several Southeast Asian countries, so the plan required in-depth defense and security analysis.
