ouse of Representatives Speaker Puan Maharani has stressed the importance of data verification in disbursing bansos (social aid) to targeted recipients, after it was revealed that well-off people were among recipients of the aid.

“Do not let people who are ineligible for the program receive bansos. Only people who are eligible should receive these [aid] programs,” Puan said at the House compound on Monday, as quoted by kompas.com.

Data verification was one of her priorities when she was the coordinating human development and culture minister. She added that data was the most important basis for the Social Affairs Ministry in disbursing social aid.

“I believe that data and everything related to data verification is the most important thing,” she said.

“Do not change any program without proper, detailed and correct data verification. This is the most important thing as the basis.”

The Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) recently revealed that 27,932 employees of state-owned enterprises (SOEs) were suspected of having received social aid.
