A

s one of the most upsetting events this year, the Orlando nightclub shooting has prompted numerous TV personalities to respond, including hosts of night-time comedy talk shows.

The Tonight Show’s Jimmy Fallon, in a rarely-seen serious mood, issued a touching statement of support for the victims of the shooting on his show on Monday night. In a shaky voice, Fallon touched on the subject as a new father.

“What do I tell my kids? What can we learn from this? What if my kids were gay? What do I tell them?”

Fallon drew a lesson from the incident, “A lesson in tolerance, we need to support each other’s differences and worry less about our own opinions.”

John Oliver, host of HBO’s Last Week Tonight, also shared his thoughts on the Orlando shooting on air in his show on Sunday.

Referring to the Paris bombing, Oliver said, “The pain is so familiar; in Paris last November, terrorists seemed to target places symbolizing everything that is wonderful about France: culture, music, restaurants. And in Orlando, early this morning, the gunman attacked a Latin night at a gay club in the theme park capital of the world.”

Concluding his address, Oliver showed footage of Orlando residents lining up to donate blood for the victims. He said, “It might be worth seeing this video, which was posted to Twitter today. It shows hundreds and hundreds of people lining up around the block in Florida waiting to donate blood. And it kind of reminds you that this terrorist [expletive], is vastly outnumbered.”
