hildren’s amusement center Kidzania Jakarta has partnered with Combantrin in launching its newest learning space, named the Combantrin Archaeological Site Kidzania Jakarta. The space is intended to give children the opportunity to learn more about archaeology and palaeontology.

Kidzania’s chief marketing officer, Faisal Reza, told tempo.co on Thursday, “We carried out research prior to building this learning space to make it attractive as well as educational for children.”

The archaeological space offers not only educational materials for children, but also a fun experience. Before they start exploring, children are dressed in a safari suit and round archaeologist hat. They are also equipped with a set of excavation tools including a shovel and a set of brushes in different sizes.

After being dressed and equipped with the tools, a guide directs the children to begin the adventure. The guide describes what archaeology and palaeontology is all about, as well as what archaeologists and palaeontologists do in excavation.

According to Faisal, the space is made to look like a real archaeologist’s work environment. Children are given the experience of going through stone passages and discovering sand mounds that look like excavation boxes.

When children excavate and find artefacts or ecofacts (fossils) from the excavation box, they can then bring their findings to the archaeology laboratory. They will assemble their findings, which resemble puzzles and analyze, the findings via the books made available inside the lab.

The space is ideal for children above 6 years old, who will thoroughly enjoy the experience while learning new things. Play duration in the space is 30 minutes.
