Netflix has ordered its first Turkish-language TV series.

There are reports that the series will be a 10-episode action-drama based on the history of the Ottoman Empire.  

According to Netflix, the drama will be about a “young man who discovers that he has special powers and who, when Istanbul is threatened by dark forces, must team up with a group of misfit friends to save the city and all of mankind".

Due to the popularity of homegrown shows, such as the period drama Magnificent Century, the yet-to-be-named series might result in a boost for Netflix within the Turkish market.

The show, which will be produced by the Istanbul-based O3 Medya, will be written in Turkey. It is expected that the show will be released on Netflix International in 2018. (sul/kes)
