oogle has highlighted several mobile apps and features to accompany users as they fast, as well as when they travel to their homeland during the Idul Fitri holiday.

“We're introducing the latest features of Search, Maps, Play and YouTube to accompany users in the four most important moments of their Ramadhan, which are fasting, ngabuburit [waiting for iftar], mudik [exodus] and Idul Fitri,” said Google Indonesia marketing head Veronica Utami in an official statement.

Google Search

Users can utilize the Google Search feature to look for Ramadhan-related information, such as Ramadhan recipes, Ramadhan greetings and sunset countdown, simply by typing the keywords in the search bar or using the voice search feature within the Google App app. Do note that the voice search feature works best in Indonesian language setting when searching for Indonesian terms.

Google Maps

Through collaboration with Qraved and Chope, Google Maps allows users to make restaurant reservation directly from the app. To use the feature, users will be asked to input the name of the desired restaurant in the search bar and access the “Find a Table” or “Book Now” (for iOS users) option. Do note that not all restaurants can be booked this way.

Meanwhile, when traveling to their homeland, users can use the Google Maps to look for nearby mosque and gas station simply by typing “masjid dekat sini” (nearby mosque) or “pom bensin dekat sini” (nearby gas station). They can also search for the same keywords using the voice recognition feature. Those who are still on their way can share information of their whereabouts to friends and family by utilizing the location sharing feature from the app.

Those who plan to travel within the Greater Jakarta area via the commuter line train can also utilize the real-time commuter line information within the app to look for train schedules, estimated travel times and fares.

YouTube

Those looking for Ramadhan-related videos can browse YouTube's Ramadhan Shelf. Users can watch the videos as they browse or save them to watch later, even without internet connection via YouTube's offline feature. The saved video will be available for 48 hours.

Google Play

Google stated that the search for entertainment content — which includes gaming — as well as promotion and online discounts increases during Ramadhan. Taking this into account, Google has created the #SalipLevel campaign that enables users to get up to 80 percent discount on 36 games and apps during Ramadhan.

Google Share Photos

After gathering with family members, users can easily save and share photos of the gathering via the Album Sharing feature in Google Photos. Users can log into the Google Photos app, access the Shared menu and send photos within the newly created album to a recipient’s phone number or email address. (kes)
