Nike recently announced the release of a signature sneaker from Oklahoma City Thunder star forward Paul George. The sneaker, dubbed Nike Playstation-PG2, debuted during a game between the Thunder and the Cleveland Cavaliers on Jan. 20.

As the sneakers were inspired by Sony’s most famous gaming platform, the design is dominated by a dark blue color, featuring a galaxy theme in its sock liner. The Nike swooshes adopt PlayStation colors of blue, pink and green.

George, an avid gamer since he was a child, said, “I remember unwrapping my present on Christmas morning and [I] got a PS2. I’ve been a PlayStation guy ever since.”

The sneakers feature the Paul George and PlayStation logo, powered by batteries to light up in the dark. Aside from the appealing design and color, the sneakers feature three modes: on, off and pulse. The modes are controlled by a power button on the backside of the tongue.

The two logos light up and vibrate when pressed, a nod to the vibration of the classic PlayStation controller. According to Engadget, the batteries can last up to 150 hours. However, they cannot be removed or recharged.

Paul George said he hoped the new sneakers would inspire future NBA stars. “I’m most excited for aspiring athletes to get a chance to wear these sneakers that can help them with their careers."

The limited-edition Nike Playstation-PG2 sneakers will be launched globally on Feb. 10 with a US$110 price tag. (rzf/asw)
