5 new shows to watch on Netflix during Idul Fitri A still from 'Rim of the World'. (Netflix/File)

N

ext week, Indonesians will enjoy the Idul Fitri holiday. While millions of people will go on a homebound journey in the country's largest annual exodus, many will choose to stay put for a variety of reasons.

If you are one of the latter, keep yourself entertained over the long break with these new shows on Netflix:

1. The Perfection

After her chilling performance in Jordan Peele's Get Out, Allison Williams is surely a force to be reckoned with in the horror genre. Williams stars as Charlotte in the 2018 movie The Perfection, alongside Logan Browning as Lizzie. The movie shows how the highly competitive music industry can cost you an arm, literally.

2. Always Be My Maybe

Sasha Tran (Ali Wong) and Marcus Kim (Randall Park) are two childhood friends with a romantic past who are reunited after years of separation. Despite differing socioeconomic situations, Sasha and Marcus quickly become friends again. When Sasha breaks up with her fiancé, instead of rekindling her old romance with Marcus, she meets a new man, played by Keanu Reeves.

As the title suggests, the movie is inspired by Mariah Carey's hit song "Always Be My Baby".

3. High Seas

The Spanish series is set on a 1940s cruise ship. Everything seems well until a woman dies on board. The murder triggers an investigation that risks unearthing long-buried secrets among the passengers. Based on the trailer, High Seas looks like a mix between Titanic and Murder on the Orient Express.

4. Rim of the World

Another story set in the summer with four children on bikes might seem too much like Stranger Things. But Rim of the World stands out on its own. When Alex, ZhenZhen, Dariush and Gabriel meet at summer camp, they have no idea that they are about to face a life-changing experience. How life-changing? Well, the kind that involves dinosaur-like aliens and the end of the world.

5. What/If

This neo-noir series seems to center on one question: How much are you willing to sacrifice for personal gain? Lisa Ruiz-Donovan (Jane Levy) is faced with this question as desperately looks for investment for her start-up company. Anne Montgomery (Renée Zellweger), a venture capitalist, asks Lisa to sacrifice her husband Sean (Blake Jenner) for the sake of funding. (wng)
