eyond its iconic Fatahillah Square and historic buildings, Kota Tua in Jakarta offers lots of delectable delicacies. From gelato with rujak aceh (fruit salad) to air tajin, a healthy drink with a humble origin.
Jakarta is a food lover’s playground. With different neighborhoods offering a diverse array of delicacies and delights, people can gorge on foods hard to find anywhere else. But, that’s only if they know where to look.
For 17 years, it’s been Ira Lathief’s job to help people do just that. The tour guide has been leading people around Jakarta to experience the city to its fullest.
In an effort to unlock the culinary secrets of one of Jakarta’s most historic neighborhoods, Ira introduced a new tour on June 27 called “The Most Instagrammable Food Spots in Kota Tua.”
The first tour kicked off on June 28, coinciding with the launch of her latest book, Bukan Ratu Sejagat: Catatan Seorang Tourist Guide (Not Miss Universe: A Diary of a Tourist Guide).
After the book launch, Ira and participants of the tour gathered inside the Jakarta History Museum to discuss their tour route and the history of Kota Tua, an area filled with historic buildings dating back to Dutch colonial times.
Over the next few hours, Ira led the group all over Kota Tua in search of the area’s best gastronomic hot spots.
