BANDUNG, West Java: Sixteen top teams will compete in the season-ending Sampoerna Hijau Livoli Main Division volleyball tournament at Pajajaran Sports Hall in Bandung from Dec. 14-21.
Head of the West Java chapter of the Indonesian Volleyball Association, Dadi Suradi, said the tournament would be used to decide which teams would be demoted to the lower first division.
"The two teams at the bottom of the standings will face demotion," Dadi said.
The Bank Jatim women's team from East Java and the Bahanan Bina Pakuan men's team from West Java will make their debut at the tournament, which offers a Rp 150 million (US$13,500) winner's purse.
Meanwhile, Sampoerna Hijau brand manager Suminto Alexander Hermawanto said his company was considering sponsoring volleyball events down to the kampung level as well as sponsoring national events.
"We are working on the concept and details of that project. Hopefully, we can find young talents from those events," he said. --JP/Yuli Tri Suwarni
