rt has once again stolen the heart of KL this week, with a new exhibition and a photography workshop you’ll want to dip your toes into.
First, the well preserved Wei-Ling Gallery is holding a painting exhibition called “Heads Up!”, which is an interesting pun to begin with.
The exhibition, which has apparently been open for public viewing since March 29, will last until April 28, with a handful of Malaysian artists joining in. The lineup includes Chong Choon Woon, Ng Bee, Kim Ng, Marvin Chan, Mohd Al-Khuzairie Ali and Chee Eng Hong, while the title of the exhibition gives a clue of what the paintings are all about, heads – or faces to be precise.
Each of these artists displays a great deal of mastery in their craft, while employing a unique approach to the subject to offer a completely different point of view in each of their work. With free admission, your only possible hindrance is the fact that they close on Sundays, while conveniently opening from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays.
The Wei Ling Gallery was previously called the Townhouse Gallery, which from the name illustrates the artistic approach of its architectural design. It was first opened in 2002 by Lim Wei-Ling and Yohan Rajan before having its name changed. Located at 8 Scott Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur, the gallery gained international renown after becoming the first Malaysian gallery to participate in the China International Gallery Exposition (CIGE), a prestigious international art fair that focused on global contemporary art in April 2008.
Presenting 12 exhibitions a year, international artists have often exhibited their masterpieces here. In addition to all the interesting works displayed, the wood-dominated architectural design -- with plenty of sunlight and dark wooden bridges -- might be the very reason why everyone who loves beauty should arrange a visit.

Another event you might be interested in is a photography workshop presented by the fashion oriented website www.peveyhack.com. Named Fashion and Urban Street Outing, the end result of the event is to provide avid fashion photographers with basic knowledge in photography and its vital aspects, such as lighting and composition.
Excellent tutors and professional photographers to share their talent in the project are Rashdi Amin, Sani Rahman, Zubir Juzad and many more. While not just for photographers, the event will also provide a better introduction to the industry for future models and those running a photography business.
A fee of RM150 is charged to follow the one-day workshop, running on Sunday, April 10, 2010 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
