Luna, Ariel claim they are victims of defamation

AKARTA: Pop singer Nazril "Ariel" Ilham and his model girlfriend Luna Maya said Monday that the widely circulating sex tape allegedly featuring the two popular artists were made to defame them.

In their first media interview after the scandal broke out last week, Luna told TVOne that they were "cornered" in the case.

"This is defamation. It has not been proven yet. The legal process is still ongoing," she said.

Ariel said that the sex tape was a "character assassination" against him and alluded that it might relate to his new album scheduled to be released next month.

Meanwhile, TV presenter Cut Tari, allegedly featured in another sex tape with Ariel, underwent questioning at the National Police headquarters Monday. Cut Tari was accompanied by her husband, Johannes Yusuf Subrata.

She declined to answer journalists' questions before and after the seven-hour questioning. The sex tape saga has become a national issue and has incited debate on how the government regulate the Internet and pornography.

The police, in collaboration with the Communications and Information Technology Ministry, said that the first uploaders of the video were in Bandung, West Java, and Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi. - JP
