Issue: Toisutta, Arifin fail in PSSI race

George Toisutta and Arifin Panigoro failed to qualify for the chairmanship race of the Indonesian Soccer Association (PSSI), the verification team announced Saturday.

Two other candidates, incumbent chairman Nurdin Halid and businessman Nirwan D. Bakrie, passed the verification test, the team said.

Toisutta and Arifin were widely deemed as figures of reform for Indonesian soccer, following the apparent failure of the country’s soccer potential under the tenure of Nurdin Halid.

“Our reasons for disqualifying any candidate will be sent to them privately. This is classified,” PSSI chairman election committee chief Syarif Bastaman said.

Your comments:

We need a change for the better. For that we need to overhaul the existing system.

In this country we cannot blame on one person only.

A bad system in the PSSI encourages “bad people to create bad leaders”.

Like a cycle, it will create a worse system ... again and again....

We need to cut the chain.

Dear Mr. Sepp Blatter (FIFA president), please do something to our FA as soon as possible because the PSSI is undemocratically stopping others to fight for the post of PSSI chairman.

Our association has been run by an ex-criminal and this violates FIFA law.

These two people who failed, as many know, are the complete opposites of the officially accepted nominees. Additionally, people are disappointed with the performance of one of the nominees who has run the PSSI for a while.

Many people want big changes within this institution. So, perhaps something went wrong during the verification process.

Perhaps there should be an independent watchdog, as there is for general elections, to oversee the PSSI chairmanship race. Therefore, the process would produce more legitimate results.

Let’s say Nurdin was no longer the chairman of PSSI. He may have failed to bring the national team to victory in many competitions, and he may be involved in corruption.

But if Toisutta or Arifin were to replace Nurdin, do you think either one of them would perform better? We don’t know yet. Therefore, it is better to give Nurdin another chance. Let him prove his ability.

Who knows, perhaps he will turn his dream into reality.

It would be a sad day for Indonesian soccer to see Nurdin chair PSSI again.

How would PSSI be better if a man with many troubles leads PSSI? He was once convicted in a corruption case.

The PSSI belongs to Indonesians; it does not belong to Nurdin and his friends.
