Two Singaporean soldiers are talking. Tan: “Pass the tiramisu”. Lim: “Cannot-la.” Tan: “Why not?” Lim: “Against army regulations to help another soldier to dessert”. Ba-dum! Ha ha ha.
That joke was inspired by the many letters I received about the scandalous photo published recently in Facebook of a Singapore soldier strolling along empty-handed while his poor domestic helper followed
behind carrying his enormous military back-pack. (By Nury Vittachi, Bangkok)
Your comments:
This entry’s only purpose seems to underline the insecurity and lack of confidence in your own military, which in all seems to be rather sad and disappointing.
Dishing another country’s army to make that of your own appear in better light fails to hide the unspoken truth that both you and I have a clearer picture of.
Nonetheless, I would like to take heart from the fact that you paint an image of the Singapore army as one that places deep emphasis on technology, as like the rest of the nation.
You also mentioned that we, Singaporeans, also seem to take our food seriously, which is of course an important element to the success in any army.
