DEPOK: Students from University of Indonesia won an award at the Australasian Intervarsity Debating Championships in the category of “English as second language”
EPOK: Students from University of Indonesia won an award at the Australasian Intervarsity Debating Championships in the category of “English as second language”.
Riza Aryani from the University’s School of Social Political Science, Dimas Hokka Soebekti from the School of Engineering and Muhammad Subarkah Syafruddin from the School of Law beat representatives of Hong Kong University in the final round of the world’s second-largest debate competition.
The Indonesian students discussed the movement of labor in Southeast Asia. The team won four of eight preliminary rounds to enter the quarterfinal. A University of Indonesia team also won the competition in 2009.
Other Indonesian teams at the competition were Bina Nusantara University and Bandung Institute of Technology.
University of Indonesia spokesman Vishnu Juwono told Antara news agency that the campus’ English debating community was the most successful organization in Indonesia as it had won many international competitions.
