T

hanks to Lynna Van Der Zee-Oehmke for her letter “Bogor Wayang Golek Makers” on Sept. 10, 2011, which is a correction and commentary on my article, “Bogor’s sole surviving Wayang Golek Maker”, from the Sept. 7 issue.

I again emphasize that Entang Hidayah is the most senior (in age) wayang golek crafter in Bogor. While other wayang golek crafters from his generation have passed away or are not able to continue with their profession, Entang’s family tradition is being passed on to his offspring.

The group of handy crafters at Cinangneng, as mentioned by Lynna, are all members of Entang’s large extended family. They include Pak Sukria, Aleh, Atang, Caplin. Their art products are being pooled at Pak Entang’s workshop-cum-boutique for sale, but they can also sell them to visiting wayang enthusiasts as well .

The wayang vendor at the Gong Factory, as mentioned in Lynna’s letter, is also a member of Entang’s family, but has closed shop already and prospective buyers are forwarded to Entang’s address.

I am sorry at having to omit the intricate details in the managing of a family enterprise dealing with artwork. In maintaining a coherence in my writing, I could not stray too far from the main theme, and limited space is another factor that should always be taken into consideration. But those interested in knowing more about these details can visit Entang’s workplace at Jl. Sirnagalih 60, West Bogor.

There may be some wayang vendors at Bogor’s market or other public places, but he art products they sell are mostly from Bandung, Padalarang or Cipanas .

This explains why only a few among the common people on the streets in Bogor can point to the workplace of a wayang maker.
