Sharp unveils 70-inch flat screen TV

E

lectronics producer PT Sharp Electronics Indonesia (SEI) unveiled on Thursday a 70-inch LED TV, the biggest flat screen TV ever to hit the Indonesian market.

SEI marketing general manager Herdiana Anita said after launching the product that the 70-Inch Aquos Quattron LED TV had built-in Wi-Fi connectivity and Internet applications such as YouTube, Skype, Twitter and Picassa. Consumers can also connect directly to Sharp’s website, aquos.net.

“The TV is perfect for those dreaming of having a small home theater. Its 70 diagonal inches provide a very extensive viewing area,” she said.

With a price tag of Rp 50 million (US$5,649), Herdiana said that the TV was targeted at both upper- and middle-class customers.

“I think the price is relatively affordable,” she said, adding that the TV would be available by the end of November.

“We are optimistic about selling up to 100 units per month and increasing our loyal customers in Indonesia.”

Previously, Sharp launched 40-, 46-, 52- and 60-inch Aquos Quattron 3D LED televisions, which also have Internet applications.

SEI also launched an earlier version of the Aquos 3D LED with the same dimensions — 40-, 46-, 52- and 60-inch, but without Internet applications.

Herdiana said that SEI expected the new jumbo-sized TV could contribute LED TV sales of up to 96,000 units by the end of the year.

Last year, LED TV sales reached 24,000 units. SEI expected that next year, LED TV sales could reach 180,000 units.

She said that SEI could achieve total TV sales, including CRT and LCD TVs, of up to 580,000 units this year. Last year, its TV sales reached 300,000 units.

“We hope next year that the figure can reach 700,000 units,” she said.

She said that TV sales contributed 38 percent to SEI’s total home appliance products sales.

“The rest are refrigerators with 32 percent of sales, 14 percent from air conditioner and 11 percent from washing machines,” she said. (fem)
