OGOR: More than a hundred children with autism from Greater Jakarta flocked to the Bogor Botanical Gardens on Sunday to celebrate the fifth annual World Autism Awareness Day.

Accompanied by their parents, the children participated in a range of activities, including art performances and a trash-picking walk.

Anita, an event organizer, said the event was held to increase public awareness of autism and to encourage support of children with autism.

“Children with autism are no less intelligent than other children. Some of them are even geniuses. Their problem is in social interaction,” Anita said as quoted by kompas.com.

Autism is a lifelong developmental disability that manifests itself during the first three years of life.
