akarta:The Tangerang Metro Police have arrested a suspect in the killing of Suwantji Sisworahardjo, a senior lecturer at the University of Indonesia who was found dead at her home in Larangan Indah housing complex, Tangerang municipality.
“We arrested the suspect, Satrio Utomo, the nephew of the victim without resistance at a house of one of his relatives in Kalibata, South Jakarta, late on Tuesday,” Tangerang Metro Police chief Sr. Comr. Wahyu Widada told reporters on Wednesday.
The 45-year-old suspect said he had committed the murder because the victim had refused to lend him money and had scolded him.
He said that he had come to see his aunt last Friday to borrow some money to pay for his house rent.
The 73-year-old victim, one of the co-founders of social welfare studies at the University of Indonesia, refused to give him what he wanted.
The suspect said he was furious, and proceeded to electrocute his aunt, but she did not die. He then strangled the victim and struck her head.
Satrio searched the house for money, but stole only the victim’s gold jewelry and a cellular phone, the police said.
Suwantji was found dead by neighbors on Sunday evening.
Autopsy results from the Tangerang Regional General Hospital showed that she had died of hemorrhaging from a head wound inflicted by a blunt object. The results also showed that her ribs were broken.
The suspect will be charged with violating Article 340 of the Criminal Code on premeditated murder, which carries the death penalty.
