UKOHARJO: The police reported to have arrested 25 illegal immigrants from Iran in a hotel in Sukoharjo regency, Central Java, Friday morning.

Local immigration office chief Agus Widjaja said the arrests were made after the office received a report from the police regarding a group of foreigners staying at Hapsari hotel since Thursday.

“The report said there were 70 people, but we could only pick up 20 of them,” said Agus.

Three more were arrested as they tried to run away and two others were arrested at a local bus terminal.

Later in the day, five more immigrants were arrested, raising the total to 30. They were brought to the immigration office in Surakarta for further verification by the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
