ayapura: Officers from the Papua Police special crimes unit have confiscated 37 laptops, which were installed with illegal software.
“The computers, which used bogus Windows 7 and XP [operating systems], were seized in April,” Papuan Police spokesman, Adj. Sr. Comr. Johanes Nugraha, said Thursday, adding that the laptops included noted brand names like Acer, Toshiba and Advan.
The owner of the products, identified only by his initials of JL from the Galilea Store in Jayapura, has been charged with violating Aricle 72 of Law No. 19/2002 on property rights and is subject to a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a fine of Rp 5 billion (US$530,000), Johanes said.
