hree ministries and one agency have set up a forum to address various issues related to climate change.
The forum, run by the Environment Ministry, the Research and Technology Ministry, the Education and Culture Ministry and the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), is called the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Indonesia.
The IPCC is the local arm of an international forum.
“The past and present research of Indonesian scientists has been scattered. Therefore, it cannot be used maximally to support the government in making policies to address climate change issues,” Idwan Suhardi, deputy minister for science and technological utilization at the Research and Technology Ministry, said on Friday.
The forum is expected to help the government meet its target to cut carbon emissions by 26 percent from current levels by 2020 to combat climate change.
