tudents in Merangin regency, Jambi province, will have their studies delayed as their teachers went on strike on Friday to protest last year's unpaid certification allowance covering four months.
The strike, which is being led by the Merangin Teachers Forum, is expected to last until the government responds to the issue.
'Teachers are still going to the schools but no classes are being held,' the forum's secretary, Nukman, said recently.
Meydiana, a student at Merangin 6 state senior high school, whose teachers are also on strike, said that she understood the teachers' objection.
'However, I expect them to understand that their students also have the right an education,' she said.(nai/dic)
