o introduce the capital city'€™s new modern mass transportation system to residents, consortium PT Jakarta Monorail (JM) unveiled a monorail mockup at Silang Monas (National Monument) in Central Jakarta on Saturday.

The exhibition, which was opened by Governor Joko '€œJokowi'€ Widodo and State-owned Enterprises Minister Dahlan Iskan during Jakarta'€™s 486th anniversary celebration, will run until July 14.

'€œI hope this exhibition benefits the people,'€ Dahlan said on Saturday.

Dahlan, Jokowi and JM leaders, including Edward Soeryadjaya, JM'€™s majority shareholder, Ortus Holdings Ltd chairman; JM spokesperson Bovanantoo; and Ortus director for business development Banyu Biru Djarot, later toured the exhibition area.

Banyu showed the entourage a video mapping that displayed the green loop line and blue line that the consortium will build.  The entourage also inspected the train mockup.

JM has appointed China-based rolling stock manufacturer Changchun Railway Vehicle Co., Ltd. (CNR) to supply trains for the monorail project.

'€œI am very happy with the exhibition, which was initiated by PT JM. This way, we can properly introduce the city administration'€™s program,'€ Jokowi said.

Edward promised that the company would deliver its best.

'€œWe are honored by the task to provide a solution to our transportation issues. We will implement it wholeheartedly and we are optimistic that we can complete this task,'€ he said.

The consortium is proposing to build two lines: The green line, with 16 stations, will extend 14.27 kilometers from Komdak (the city police headquarters) to Satria Mandala Museum, both in South Jakarta; and the blue line will stretch 9.72 km from Kampung Melayu in East Jakarta to Roxy in West Jakarta, with 11 stations.

JM is aiming to operate 10 trains comprising nearly 200 carriages on two monorail lines by 2016. Banyu said that the train could transport up to 200,000 passengers each trip and was expected to be able to transport up to 800,000 passengers a day.

A consortium of state-owned enterprises, comprising Adhi Karya, toll road operator PT Jasa Marga, train manufacturer PT INKA, telecommunications firm PT Telkom and electronic components maker PT LEN Industry, has proposed to build new monorail lines, which will connect East Bekasi and Cawang; Cibubur to Cawang, East Jakarta; and Cawang to Kuningan, South Jakarta.

The monorail would travel the Cawang-Kuningan route for 15 minutes, the Cibubur-Cawang route for 18 minutes and the East Bekasi-Cawang for 24 minutes, according to the consortium.
